Government will bear the fee for SC's and ST's only, Not for BC,EBC or Minorities

Hyderabad ::
There will be more seats as well as more fees for students eyeing admission to the state’s engineering colleges in the new academic year.Ignoring the state government’s request, All India Council for Technical Education has sanctioned an additional 50,000 B.Tech seats for 2012-13.

These seats were added to the existing 500-odd colleges, with only four new colleges approved.
While the number of B.Tech seats crossed 3.6 lakh in the state’s 720-odd engineering colleges with this, Eamcet officials have received 2.92 lakh applica
tions for admission so far this year.

Meanwhile, the state government is likely to raise the annual fees from `31,000 to `38,000. But this, officials said, will be a common fee for all, unlike
`31,000 as fee for convenor quota (70 per cent seats) and `95,000 currently charged for admission to the remaining seats under management quota.

The government had earlier invited fresh fee proposals from the colleges, and managements of many colleges sought a hike up to `55,000. The government is learnt to have settled for `38,000 and is likely to submit an affidavit in the Supreme Court to this effect soon.

Sources said the government will bear the entire fee for only the SCs and STs, while those from BC, EBC or minority categories will be given only `20,000 and asked to pay the rest.

Eyeing students from other states While the number of B.Tech seats crossed 3.6 lakh this year, only 2.92 lakh applications have been received Colleges are hoping to get applications from students in Bihar, Uttaranchal, Jharkhand among others.
