What is the age limit for IELTS?

IELTS is nor recommended for candidates under the age of 16


Can one take IELTS instead of TOEFL?

YES. There are several US institutions that recognize IELTS. They accept either IELTS or TOEFL for admission to award courses.

Which version of training test should one take?

Read the explanation of the Academic and General Training tests, and then contact the organization or institution to which you are applying to find out what it requires. Note that you must know which version to take when you complete the IELTS Application Form.

When can one take IELTS?

IELTS is available on 48 fixed dates a year – up to four times a month, depending on local demand. Check all the test dates for the year or go to your nearest centre to see its next test date.

What if one needs to postpone or cancel my application?

If you postpone or cancel your application more than 5 weeks before the test date, you will receive a refund minus an administration charge.
If you postpone or cancel within 5 weeks of the test date, you will be charged the full fee unless you have a medical reason. If you provide a medical certificate within 5 days of the test date, you will receive a refund minus the local administrative cost.

Is the IELTS test completed in one day?

The Listening, Reading and Writing components of the test are always completed immediately after each other and with no break. Depending on the test centre, the Speaking test may be taken up to 7 days either before or after the test date.
What do one needs for the Speaking test?

You must bring the same identification documents you supplied on your IELTS Application Form and used for the rest of the test. Your ID will be checked before you enter the interview room.

When will I receive my test results?

You will receive your Test Report Form in the mail 13 days after your test date.

For how long is a test result valid?

There are a number of variables affecting the length of time over which an IELTS score remains valid. As a general rule it is recommended that a Test Report Form (TRF), that is more than two years old should only be accepted as evidence of present level of ability if accompanied by proof that a candidate has actively maintained or tried to improve their English language proficiency.

What is the IELTS test fee and how do I pay?

You need to pay  Rs. 7,200/- (Rupees Seven Thousand Two Hundred only), payable by Demand Draft, drawn in favour of ' IELTS India Project ', Payable at New Delhi (for IDP Australia) and Rs. 7,200/- (Rupees Seven Thousand Four Hundred only), payable by Credit card / Debit card.

What if one is unable to appear for the test?

In the event a registered candidate fails to appear for the IELTS test, the candidate will be treated as a 'No Show' candidate. Please note, no refunds will be possible for no shows.

What can one do if one not happy with my results?


You may apply for an enquiry on results (EoR) procedure within six weeks of test date, using a prescribed form. Click here to download the EoR application form. Please note there is fee of Rs. 5,550/- (Rupees Five Thousand Five Hundred and Fifty only), which must be paid prior to the processing of the appeal, i.e. along with the application. The fee must be paid by Demand Draft drawn in favour of "IELTS India Project", Payable at "New Delhi".
